The Port of Rotterdam is changing radically in the area between Delftshaven, Merwehaven and Vierhaven. The new Rotterdam Innovation District is taking root there with the aim of revitalizing the port, offering more waterfront access to the public and embracing the new economy of product innovation. The two warehouses on Merwehaven, previously operated by Total Produce, are transformed into a flexible co-working space for medium-sized companies. Within the existing warehouses a series of office spaces facing the waterfront are arranged in a modular way as per the tenants’ requirements. Common-use spaces for meetings, gatherings and events are centrally placed to facilitate networking between companies. The design achieved 3rd place in the closed competition.
