Venn´s Thialf in Heerenveen is a project for the redesign of the most important indoor speed-skating facility in The Netherlands. It is the training home of the national team and the location for a series of world-class events for one of the country’s most popular sports. The redesign aims at a highly iconic venue with exceptional sustainability performance. The structure follows climatic and architectural principles that were set as parametric drivers of the building. The direction of the primary beams shifts to follow the path of the sun during the day, simplifying the installation of secondary structural elements and cladding, while providing a distinct spatial experience through the complex balance of sunlight throughout the construction.
